DRAFTING MISSION PROJECTS

CICM – General Committee for Mission

By Fr. Peter Baekelmans, CICM

In CICM, we are using already for a long time the document on Drafting a Provincial Missionary Project (PMP). This document helps a Province to organize itself, become one in spirit, and to select among the many projects those that have priority. In our latest General Chapter we came also up with the need for a six-year strategic planning, because some provinces do not renew the provincial missionary project regularly.

The newly created General Committee on Mission in CICM saw however that to make a good Provincial Missionary Project, the local projects have to be well defined too. For that reason, it came up with a document on Drafting a Local Missionary Project (LMP), very much in line with the one on the provincial missionary project. It helps in organizing a local projects such as a small school, a church, a new initiative. A written project creates more unity and continuity. It helps also for confreres, sisters, to prepare projects in view of financial support, and it facilitates the work of the provincial or superior general when visiting the confreres in the field or in discussing the mission project in their council.
